MFM's Zikiye Targets Happy Ending To The Season

Jonathan Zikiye may as well be referred to as the lucky one in the Nigeria Professional Football League this season as he has left the tough period of struggling to get playing time at Wikki Tourist to being a regular at MFM FC.

Zikiye believes he'll end the season on a high despite the not too pleasant experiences he had at the start of the season.

"I pray to win the title this season with MFM," Zikiye told Footyalert

"Even if it doesn't happen, I will still have a happy ending this season because it has been a little rough for me. Things didn't workout as planned for me but all the same God has taken control of events and I am grateful for His grace for where I am.

"I think we need to double our effort and increase the level of concentration because as it stands, it's not yet clear who will win the title or secure a continental slot.

"The title race is still open to everyone. We  have a brighter chance especially the fact that we still have to play against plateau in Jos. I think it's an important game for us and we hope to get something out that game, same as the other matches on the road then remain excellent at home.

The defender left Dolphins FC two seasons back after the Port Harcourt outfit beat the drop on the last day.  He moved to Kano Pillars in the 2015/16 season but the four time Nigerian champions had a terrible outing.

He tried his luck at Wikki Tourist when his former coach (Baba Ganaru Mohammed) joined the Elephants at the start of the 2016/17 NPFL Season.

Though he put up an excellent display during preseason but he wasn't registered for Wikki Tourist campaign in the 2017 Caf Confederation  Cup and neither did he get up to an hour playing time in the first half of 2016/17 NPFL season.

He was told to leave at the last minute during the mid-season transfer and it looked like he wasn't going to secure a deal with another club since most clubs have rounded up activities in transfer window.

But somehow, MFM gave him a life line and he has been a regular since he joined the Olukoya Boys.

Apart from the fact that the Olukoya Boys may pick up a continental slot this term, Zikiye may as well be a Nigerian champion as the Lagos outfit gave their tittle chase a big boost when they defeated Remo Stars 0-1 away from home on match day 32 in the NPFL to close the gap on the league leaders,Plateau United.

MFM sit second on the league table with 55 points from 32 matches, three points adrift Plateau United.
